Reed diffuser: Night Blooms, India by Told London

The seasons may be changing again, but that doesn’t mean we have to leave the warmth and escapism behind! It’s time to bring out a reed diffuser to keep the glorious fragrances coming with minimal effort. Night Blooms, India, by Told London is perfect if you want your home to smell rich, ornate, and permanently ready for an elegant evening.

The Brand

Told London is one of those brands that feels personal and high-end without being stuffy. The whole range is about bringing the atmosphere of far-flung, beautiful places right into your living room. Specialising in high-end home fragrance, the artistry and detail of the brand really shows. Their scents are sophisticated and built with a complexity that feels akin to how perfumers formulate scents for the skin. You get the feeling you’re in the hands of people who are serious about their craft, as soon as you open the box.

The Packaging

The Night Blooms, India diffuser comes in a pretty, white ceramic pot with a pleasingly weighty gold-coloured metal lid. The pot is adorned with black line drawings inspired by India. It’s eye-catching, functional, and elegant. The branding is identifiable and distinct, but in a way that will allow it to fit in perfectly with pretty much any room or decor, from bedroom to bathroom. The whole item is presented beautifully in a sturdy cardboard box, and the fragranced liquid itself is in a secure, screw-top bottle for safety during transportation.

The Scent

The brand promises a “heady, breath-taking, floral spicy fragrance,” and they really deliver. This scent gets off to an attractive, cheerfully uplifting start, thanks to the pomegranate and red berries. This is certainly the thing you notice first, giving a juicy, dark-fruit sweetness that is enticing. I really loved this initial blast of scent. There’s a whisper of the pink peppercorn here too, which keeps the sweetness in check and adds a lovely bright, slightly sharp edge.

As the scent really gets going it’s possible to notice the jasmine, and it’s where the ‘India’ part of the name really blooms. The jasmine sambac is rich, full-bodied, and perfectly blended with the clove. This is what gives the fragrance its spicy warmth, making it feel luxurious and transportive.

Patchouli and cedar hum underneath the main body of the scent providing a deep, woody foundation. I didn’t find the patchouli to be too overpowering or ‘earthy,’ as it sometimes can be; it’s well-rounded by the lovely, subtle creaminess of the vanilla and sandalwood. Overall, the scent is robust and glamorous, and it makes your home smell instantly special without being remotely sickly.

The Throw

The throw from this reed diffuser is great. You often find that diffusers struggle to truly scent a whole room, but Night Blooms, India does a valiant job. Within a few hours of setting the reeds, the entirety of the upstairs floor of my house was benefiting from its lovely aroma. It has a subtle presence, but is noticeable, especially when you walk into the room.

The Verdict

This is a pretty and elegant diffuser for people who want their home to smell consistently and beautifully of something rich and complex, but who don’t want to be overpowered by anything cloying or overly synthetic smelling. The depth of the spicy-floral tone makes it appropriate for a living room, a dining area, or perhaps even a hallway to make a wonderful first impression. It’s a nice scent to have running when you are having a cosy night in but still want your home to feel polished and grown up.

One minor point is that the liquid in the pot will spill significantly if knocked over, so make sure you situate the diffuser somewhere where that won’t be an issue. With it having a wide, open top, it would be akin to spilling a cup of coffee on your carpet, although perhaps this is even nicer fragranced!
